WALTER L. AND BARBARA A. BERGER FAMILY

Walter Berger’s father, Frank, came to Illinois from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1878. Frank married Cora Kemmerer and moved to Hope, Kansas for a few years. Three of their seven children were born in Kansas—James, Walter, and Gertrude. 

James Berger (December 9, 1885---December 16, 1981) married Cora Stews from Aurora.

Walter Berger (October 4, 1887---October 26, 1967) married Barbara Bermes on February 20, 1912. Barbara was born February 20, 1892 and died August 2, 1985. Of this union, two children were born; Sterling Glenn (January 22, 1916---November 6, 1990) and Irene Verdell (June 24, 1918). The Berger farm was located on the northeast corner of Route 34 and Route 59. 

Gertrude (November 21, 1889---July 23, 1915) married Richard Gorrie. Due to the terrible heat and drought and their inability to grow crops in Kansas, Frank’s family was on the brink of starvation, so they returned to DuPage County, Illinois, where four more children were born.
Eugene (March 21, 1897---September 18, 1918), and Dwight Moody (July 13, 1901---August, 1990) who married Marian Richert and they had Donald Berger.

Beatrice Berger (October 12, 1903) married William Mende in 1919. She currently lives at Jennings Terrace, Aurora and has provided much of this information. “Aunt Bee” kept precise family records and still has a wonderful memory, a great sense of humor, and is a joy to know and love.

Lastly was Jewel (January 4, 1910---December 6, 1973) who married Harold Manning and soon thereafter moved to California, where they always lived. They had no children.

Irene Berger married Donald Campbell in February of 1952 and they had no children. They always resided in Aurora, where Irene still lives today. Don died in November of 1985, only three months after his mother’s death. 

Sterling married Gladys Wiesbrook in September of 1937, and they had four children: Arla Jean Marie (November 18, 1938), Keith Walter (March 6, 1941), Janet Sue (February 4, 1945---August 20, 1989) and Mary Louise (March 4, 1948).

Arla Jean married Ronald Minor in February of 1960; they have always lived in Naperville. They have three children; Steven (August, 1962), Christa (December, 1963), and Kenneth (May, 1965). Christa married Mark Tichacek in June of 1990 and they had two children: Alina (October, 1993), and Jared (May, 1995).
They moved from Lake Zurich to Carbondale, Illinois in August of 1996 when Mark purchased his own veterinary practice.

Ken married Valerie Kieklak and they live in Naperville, as does Steve. Keith married Laurenda Rieser from Plainfield and they had four daughters: Rennell, Rene, Valerie, and Vickie.

Rennell (June, 1960) married Ron Brummel and they have one son, Austin Keith (July, 1993). Rene (November 1961) married Robert Rischl and they have two sons, Daniel (July, 1988) and Matthew (May, 1991). Valerie is deceased (December, 1980).

Vickie (March, 1965) married Jim Angell and they had two daughters, Amie (October, 1983), and Ashley (August, 1985). Keith still lives in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

Janet married Dean Gitzlaff (March, 1964) and they always have lived in Naperville. They had three children, Dana (October, 1964), Dawna (October, 1965), and Troy (November, 1968). Dana has two daughters, Brittany (September, 1968), and Lisa (January, 1981). Dawna married Patrick Cassidy in June, 1997. Dawna has a son, Joshua. Troy has two daughters, Courtney (November, 1989) and Danielle (March, 1993).

Mary married James Kidd (June, 1969) and they live in Big Rock, Illinois. They have two children, Allison (May, 1972) and Robert (December, 1975). Allison married Stephen Probst and lives in Hinckley. Rob was married to Marcy Oeser on Valentine’s Day in 1998.

Gladys Berger currently resides at Jennings Terrace, due to declining health. She recently celebrated her 80th birthday. She has been an inspiration to all, loves her family, and treasures her friends.
