ADOLPH
HAMMERSCHMIDT FAMILY
Adolph Hammerschmidt, the older brother of Conrad (1839-1918) and Herman farmed in section 22 of Naperville Township (along Oswego Road) until 1894.
Not later that approximately 1852, Adolph Hammerschmidt, married Adeline von Oven.
In 1894, Adolph Hammerschmidt and his wife Adeline took possession of the large Victorian-style house which they had built in Naperville. The house is located at 432 East Chicago Avenue.
Adolph continued his interest in St. John’s Evangelical Church. He was also actively associated with business enterprises in both Elmhurst and Lombard which were operated by his sons, William (1853-1924), Max (1864-1927), and Richard (1869-1940).
Adolph and Adeline had eleven (11) children – four (4) boys and seven (7) girls. The couple’s family in addition to William, Max, and Richard were Marie (1855-1938), Ernst (1857-1885), Elizabeth (1859-1925), Anna (1860-1884), Clara (1862-1935) married to Rev. Adolph Baltzer (d.1941) and lived in Rochester, N.Y., Frieda (1866-1952), Lydia (1871-1936), and Martha (1874-1893).
